Who is a maternity room for?

A maternity room is intended for parents who would like a calm start, extra support, or a safe transition between the hospital and returning home. Maternity care at home remains possible.

How long can you stay?

You can stay in a maternity room for a maximum of four days after the birth.

What does the maternity nurse do?

The maternity nurse observes and supports both mother and baby. She helps with feeding and baby care, provides advice and information, and helps create peace, structure and confidence.

Do parents have to provide their own meals?

The mother can choose meals from the hospital menu.

Can I still receive maternity care at home?

Yes. The maternity rooms are an additional option. Maternity care at home remains available.

Who can stay in a maternity room?

Any new mother can stay in a maternity room, whether she has given birth at home, as an outpatient, or in hospital.

Can my partner or a support person stay overnight?

Yes. Each room has a second bed for a partner or support person.

Is the stay reimbursed?

The stay is largely reimbursed by health insurance, just like maternity care at home. A statutory personal contribution per hour applies.

Why maternity rooms?

Maternity rooms allow one maternity nurse to support several families more efficiently. This creates more time for personal attention and high-quality care.
